Schrader, Shryock, Muilenburg, Arnold and Edgerton Win at 38th Annual Kegger

POCOLA, OK (March 30th, 31st and April 1st) – The 47th consecutive year of racing at the legendary Tri-State Speedway got off to a rocky start Mother Nature playing her always available trump card to our scheduled activities. This time close to four inches of rain fell on the originally scheduled day two of this event forcing us to move the event forward one week.

But, the delay may have been a blessing in disguise. NASCAR veteran driver, Ken Schrader, who now races his Federated Auto Parts dirt modifieds was originally scheduled for the rained out weekend and was not going to be able to attend this weekend due to scheduling conflicts. However, his plans changed this weekend when his scheduled race was rained out and our weather was perfect. Not only was Ken able to race with us this weekend, but several other national-level drivers were able to attend, too, including drivers from Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

The pre-race ceremonies for day three of the 38th Annual Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger started about 8:00 PM and included an introduction of the late Cecil Harlan’s family that were in attendance including his daughter, granddaughter and three great grandchildren.  That was followed by a memorial reading about Cecil, the invocation and memorial parade lap during the National Anthem with cars carrying the Stars and Stripes.

The race program for night number three started with B Features for the Pure Stocks, the Super Stocks, the USRA B-Mods and the USRA Modifieds. Those lineups were determined by their qualifying on night number two and any drivers trying to race their way into the big money A features.

At intermission, everyone had a chance to stretch their legs, make any needed pit stops at the restrooms, buy a limited edition Kegger T-shirt or hoodie from Kevin and the Cuztom Graphics guys and get one of the new track burgers that Audrey and her crew had cooking on the grill.

The first race on the track after intermission was the Pure Stock for their 25 lap A Feature where Rick Edgerton (27 – Fort Smith, AR) took the win as Austin Farnam (119 – Fort Smith, AR) was a very close second and Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) in third.

Up next were the USRA B-Mods for their A Feature that saw Stephen Muilenburg (39 – Sparta, MO) secure the victory over a hard-charging Dean Green (28 – Siloam Springs, AR). Daniel Tarkington (2 – Checotah, OK) brought his machine home for a third-place finish.

Next was the IMCA Modified A Feature where Kelly Shryock (3 – Fertile, IA) showed why he’s won multiple national championships with the win. Jeff James (71 - Stanton, IA) crossed the finish line ahead of Ken Schrader (9 – Concord, NC) who finished in third.

The next feature on the track was for the Super Stocks. Robby Arnold (60 – Paragould, AR) had it set on “win” from the start as was able to out run Tony Anglin (G1 – Walnut Ridge, AR) and Kyle Davis (4 – Siloam Spring, AR) who finished in second and third respectively.

The USRA Modified A Feature was the last on the track next and saw Ken Schrader (9 – Concord, NC) survive a few challenges for the win. Chad Wheeler (88 – Muskogee, OK) finished in second ahead of Brian Williams (26 – Fayetteville, AR) in third.
