THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (June 25TH, 2016) – The tenth regular night of weekly racing saw 39 cars show up in the three point classes that were racing and another 38 cars show up for the big 100 lap, $1,500 to win Enduro. Another week went by with zero rain falling at the track. A little extra track prep caused the start time to be pushed back a few minutes and the track surface was watered several times throughout the night’s action to keep the track in top condition for the drivers and fans in the stands.

The pre-race ceremonies kicked off with the invocation and the presentation the nation’s colors during the National Anthem by two of our USRA Modified drivers.

First up on the agenda for the race program was heat racing for the Pure Stocks, Super Stocks and the USRA Modifieds as the IMCA classes had the night off to compete at another area track.

The intermission was next and gave everyone a chance to make a pit stop at the restrooms and get some of the great concession food, including some world famous Menasco BBQ ribs, home-made potato salad and a funnel cake for desert. One lucky 50/50 winner walked off with close to $45 for their winning ticket. The previous A feature winners also received their trophies, had their photos taken and were interviewed by Michelle Walker.

Intermission time also brought everyone the chance to stretch their legs and make a pit stop at the concession stand for some badly needed liquid refreshments as the temperature at race time was a nice and balmy 98 degrees. Well, it was only nice and balmy if you were a gila monster laying on a rock. The 50/50 drawing was also held plus some discount coupons were given away by Budget Tire & Auto Center to some lucky race fans.

TOP THREE

The first feature on the track after intermission was for the Pure Stocks. Defending class champion, Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) took home the win for the second week in a row over Jalen Brewton (41B – Alma, AR) and Marshall Penson (1P – Van Buren, AR) who finished in second and third, respectively. Perkins also picked up a $60 Hard Charger bonus from Budget Tire & Auto Center for his six spot improvement from his seventh place starting position.

The next A Feature action was for the Super Stocks. H Palmer (X-15 – Muldrow, OK) crossed the finish line first ahead of last week’s winner, Gene Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) while Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) finished not far behind the top two in third.

The USRA Modified A Feature was on the track next for their feature where George Martin (16 – Fort Smith, AR0 picked up win number one of the season over Brandon Hunter (1/4 – Alma, AR) and Jeremy Vaughn (8 – Pocola, OK).

The last race of the night was the huge 100 lap, %1,500 to win Enduro that saw 38 cars line up on the front straight back into Turn 4 for their Formula One style dead start. About 45 minutes later, the leader after 100 laps was Gregg Dobbs (91 – Booneville, AR). Close behind was Nathan Reed (40 – Alma, AR) and crossing the finish line in third was Brian Scroggins (92 – Hulbert, OK).
