Scroggins Wins Back to Back and Makes It Three on the Season

The 8th Annual Danny Martinez, Jr. Memorial Races and Law Enforcement, EMT and Fire Fighter’s Night saw 76 racers take on the famous high banks for another night of point racing for the 2015 season. The pre-race activities began 6:45 PM with temperatures in the mid 80’s and a slight breeze from the south. For the first time this season, there was no rain during the week and the track prep workers had the track race-ready, extremely raceable and fast with three and four-wide action throughout the night.

The first order of business was to honor the last races (April 25th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and memorial parade laps by area law enforcement personnel and drivers during the national anthem.

Danny Martinez, Jr. was a Fort Smith, AR police officer and Tri-State Speedway race car driver, fan and friend, who was killed in the line of duty in March of 2007.

Heat racing action took to the track afterwards taking the grandstand crowd to intermission at around 8:30 PM. The intermission break, not only gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food, but also gave those in attendance a chance to hear live interviews with flagman, Chris Highley, and former track promoter, Sonny Davis, from interviewer, Michelle Walker.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks and Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) took home his third win of the season while Jack Kirby (7K) and Jeff Metcalf (7J) rounded out the top three.

In the Super Stock A Feature competition, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) took the win away from Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) on the next to last lap with a great pass off of turn four while Dale Richardson (327 – Muskogee, OK) finished in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with Johnny Bone, Jr. (12 – Pea Ridge, AR) taking home the win while surviving a late race challenge by Shawn Walsh (10 – Ash Flat, AR), who finished in second, while Brent Holman (17 – Rogers, AR) came home in third for the second week in a row.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Dale Richardson (327 – Muskogee, OK) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Mike Weisman (DT1 – Muskogee, OK) finished second with Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) in third.

The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods where Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) picked up his third feature win of the season and second in a row. Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) had the race won until lap traffic off of the last turn, on the last lap, relegated him to a second place finish ahead of Todd Broyles (09 – Farmington, AR) who finished in third for the second week in a row.
