Driver of the Week: Ty Evans

Ty Evans, 27, of Fort Smith, driver of the #5E super stock, is Tri-State Speedway's driver of the week for Aug. 27, 2017.

Evans is a third-generation driver who takes pride in the fact that his grandfather, Tillman Evans, founded the beloved track. His father, Tilly, is a multiple-time track champion, so racing is simply in his blood. Ty has carried on the family tradition of winning at the legendary oval.

With two hard-fought and coveted wins in the competitive super stock class, Evans has had a successful season. According to Ty, this year he has put his priorities in line, placing his faith in God first and his health next. He attributes his on-track triumphs to this change in belief and lifestyle.

Ty began racing in 2005 when he was 15 in the Roadrunner class. In 2010, he had two cars--a Roadrunner and a Super Stock--and raced in both classes. Since that season he has driven exclusively in the Super Stock class in cars built and maintained by him and his father.

Ty would like to thank his dad, Tilly, and his mom, Tammy, for supporting his racing efforts all these years. He also thanks Neil Johnston, driver of the #17 Super Stock, for help as well. Ty is sponsored by Sonny Davis, Inc., and Schoenfeld Headers.

If you would like to see more of Ty in action, you can catch him on Sunday mornings as he pilots the courtesy cart at Life.Church on Old Greenwood Road across from the new McDonalds. If you are lucky, he might just put some of his racing skills into action and sling it through the corner for you. Enjoy the ride!
