THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (May 7TH, 2016) – The fifth regular night of weekly racing saw 89 cars show up to do battle on the famous high banks in Pocola, OK. With almost no precipitation falling during the week, some extra track prep caused the start of the night’s events to be delayed slightly. However, the end result was a race track that was smooth, wide and incredibly fast throughout the entire night of racing.

The pre-race ceremonies kicked off with the invocation and the reading of an informational piece about the late Danny Martinez, Jr. A memorial parade lap followed with 13 of the area’s law enforcement agencies’ vehicles presenting the nation’s colors during the National Anthem.

First up on the agenda for the race program was heat racing for the Pure Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks and the USRA Modifieds.

The intermission was next and gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs, make a pit stop at the restrooms and get some of the great concession food, including some world famous Menasco BBQ Ribs and homemade potato salad.

There was also over $130 in 50/50 funds given away at intermission. JP from Big Country 107.3 also interviewed all of the previous race programs winners as they were receiving their trophies and getting their photos taken.

TOP THREE

The Pure Stocks took to the clay for their A Feature first. Wesley Bourne (5 – Rock Island, OK) took home the checkers ahead of Austin Farnam (119 – Fort Smith, AR) and Jacob Cox (99 – Pocola, OK).

The IMCA Sport Mod A Feature was up next and saw 15 year old Kayden Menasco (49K – Dora, AR) take home the win over Dennis Slader (19 - Muskogee, OK) and Caden Ellis (84 – Wagoner, OK) in third, for the second week in a row.

The third A Feature was for the IMCA Stock Cars. Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) crossed the finish line first ahead of last week’s winner, Mike Wiseman (1 – Muskogee, OK). Kevin Flock (9 – Muskogee, OK) rounded out the top three for a Muskogee, OK one, two, three finish.

Up next was the IMCA Modified A Feature that saw Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) pick up another win while Toby Lindell (28 – Muskogee, OK) and Larry Tounzen (38 – Van Buren, AR) finished second and third, respectively.
