THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (September 3RD, 2016) – Night number fifteen of weekly racing finally got underway after a full month of not racing due to scheduled off weekends and Mother Nature’s actions. Even with the delays, fans were greeted with almost unseasonably cooler temperatures for the 8TH Annual Tillman Evans Memorial Races presented by Champ Hinton Enterprises. The last monthly bicycle races for the kids were held as was an Old Timer’s Race and since it was Labor Day weekend, there were $1 hot dogs all night long, too.

The pre-race ceremonies included the invocation followed by the presentation of the nation’s colors during the National Anthem by over 40 cars during a Memorial Parade Lap to honor the late Tillman Evans. Ty Evans, Tillman’s grandson, paced the field of cars around the famous high banks, that his grandfather built, on the front row alone as the other cars all moved around the legendary facility in a three-wide formation.

The race program started with heat racing for the IMCA Sport Mods, the Pure Stocks, the IMCA Modifieds, the Super Stocks and the USRA Modifieds.

The intermission came quickly and gave everyone a chance to make a pit stop at the rest rooms, along with getting themselves some of the new cheese sticks and cotton candy from the concession stand. One lucky 50/50 winner walked off with over $100 for their winning ticket. There were also some other winners of free tickets to future races. Waymon Harris also interviewed the previous race winners during their trophy presentation and photo sessions.

Plus, during intermission, the last monthly bicycle races were held. Trophies were presented to each of the class winners, who also had their photos taken. These can be viewed via our social media channels. Also, one lucky boy and one lucky girl each received a free bicycle just for attending the races last Saturday night.

TOP THREE

The first race on the track after intermission was the IMCA Sport Mods for their A Feature. Logan Ellis (118 – Wagoner, OK) claimed the top spot ahead of Steve Little (97S – Ada, OK) and Johnny Mitchell (87 – Huntington, AR).

The next feature on the track was for the always fast Super Stocks. Jay Rierson (71 – Booneville, AR) captured the win in his Ford powered machine over fellow Ford driver, Dan Leatherman (64L – Muskogee, OK). Randy Moses, Sr., aka “Big Moe” (75M – Muskogee, OK) crossed the finish line in third.

The USRA Modified A Feature was on the track last for their feature and saw Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) pick up the win for the second week in a row and his second of the night, over Heath Weston (17W – Muskogee, OK) and Anthony Reeves (1ST – Mulberry, AR).
