POCOLA, OK (June 20th, 2015) – For only the second week this season, Mother Nature decided not to rain during the last week, close to or on Saturday. The temperature was forecasted to be close to the mid-90’s at race time. The weather gurus got the no rain part right, but missed on the temp as it was only in the mid-80’s at race time with a nice gentle breeze blowing in from the south. Once again, the track surface continued to improve from the previous week thanks to the hard work and dedication from the track employees.

The first order of business, as always, was to honor the last races (June 13th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action in all five classes took the crowd of enthusiastic race fans in attendance to intermission at 8:20 PM. The intermission break gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food along with the soon to be world famous Menasco BBQ. The intermission also provided an opportunity for a little sprinkling on the track surface to make the main features the best they could be.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR), last week’s runner up grabbing his first win of the season ahead of former track champion David Church (89 – Mountainburg, AR) and Gary Clark (22 – Hackett, AR).

In the Super Stock A Feature Jim Philpot (25 – Greenwood, AR) let the outside line take him to the checkered flag first as Grant Davis (1 - Tahlequah, OK) finished in second and Shawn Sweeten (5 – Pocola, OK) finished in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature saw the ageless Van Gemmill (21 – Ponca City, OK) return to his winning ways with his second feature win as Shawn Walsh (Ash Flat, AR) finished in second, while Travis Johnson (86J – Enid, OK) crossed the finish line in third.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature was up next with Kyle Woody (77 – Crowder, OK) picking up his first A Feature win of the year ahead of former winner, Jay Anderson (36 – Springdale, AR), in second with Justin Johnson (55 – Fort Smith, AR) in third.

The IMCA Sport Mods A Feature saw Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) pick up his second A Feature win of the season ahead of Logan Ellis (118) and Gerry Vaughn (77 – Greenwood, AR) in third for the second week in a row.

Complete race results, including heats, are available on by clicking on the results link. Complete point standings are available by clicking on the points link.

Racing is scheduled to continue on June 27th with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes plus the new TSS Modifieds, which is a USRA-style modified class. Plus, this Saturday night will be the June bike races for the kids with two free bike giveaways, from Menasco Racing Enterprises, for the kids who show up at the track!

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 6:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 7 PM. Information on admission pricing and our complete 2015 racing schedule can always be found by clicking on the schedule link  Also, be sure to stay up to date with us via our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube which can be found by clicking the icons on the bottom of our website home page  or by adding a “/” plus “Facebook”, “Twitter”, “Google+” or “YouTube” at the end so it looks like www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com/Facebook, etc.

We will see YOU soon!

This weekend at the legendary Tri-State Speedway, the kids will once again get their chance to show their speed and racing prowess on their bicycles in the June edition of the Kids' Bicycle Races.

During intermission, all of the kids, who bring their bicykes to the track, will get the chance to race against other like-aged kids down the front strait. Trophies will be awarded for each class that races. Bike helmets are strongly recommended by not required.

As an added bonus during this weekend's races, there will be two free kid's bicycles given away at intermission, compliments of Menasco Racing Enterprises. The only requirement is that the kids come out to the track this weekend and register with their parents.

As a reminder, there will not be monthly bicycle races in July due to the heat and summer vacations. The next kids' monthly bike race date is in August and can be found by visiting our race schedule.

Also this weekend, Tri-State Speedway will intorduce the TSS Modified class. This class will be a USRA-style modified class. This class will not be required to purchase a USRA license and will not earn any USRA points by racing with us. With the acquisition of the track being later in the winter and the announcement of sanctioning coming after that, quite a few area modified drivers had already completed their new cars, or planned on running their same car again in 2015. The sanctioning and rule changes to IMCA for 2015 forced many of these drivers to either travel long distances to race or to not even race at all. Tri-State Speedway wants to be supportive of all area racers efforts and has decided to institite this new class for the remainder of the season to allow these drivers a place to race their cars locally in front of their local fans. Tri-State Speedway has no intention of dropping its IMCA sanctioning,  now or in 2016, and will continue to run the Factory/IMCA Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Modifieds.

We will see YOU this weekend for some great summetime races with some familiar faces!

June Biccyle Races!

Tri-State Speedway

With the mid-point of the 2015 season upon us, some class adjustments have just been announced.

Due to the lack of participation, the Front Wheel Drives and Mini-Stock classes have been removed from the regular weekly program. We originally did not plan to run these two classes in 2015, but they were added with the promise from the drivers that enough cars would show up each week to support the classes. We do not like to drop classes, as we like to provide everyone with a place to race, but unfortunately the support was not there and the classes have been dropped as of June 20th, 2015.

On the other hand, a new class has been added, by driver request. Tri-State Speedway, starting on June 27th, 2015, will now run a USRA-stlye Modified class called TSS Modifieds. This will NOT be a USRA sanctioned class and will not require a USRA license to compete, but will utilize the published 2015 USRA Modified rules. No USRA points will be awarded by Tri-State Speedway. This class was added, by request, from numerous USRA cars in the area who were looking for a great place to race on Saturday nights. A link to the class rules and the class payouts are available by clicking on the rules butrton or on the class payouts.

With these changes, we are confident that we will continue to provide the best show possible on the best track possible for the best fans in local dirt track aracing.

We will see YOU soon!

POCOLA, OK (June 13th, 2015) – Mother Nature tried to knock us down one more time on Saturday night, but, in the end, the strong survived. She knocked out racing for most area tracks, but the famous high banks were in top shape earlier in the afternoon and had dodged most of the area rain until about 5:45 PM. It was then when a relatively short, but powerful, rain shower drenched the track and early arriving fans. This pushed the pre-race activities back to about 7:45 PM with a cooler temperature around 80 degrees. The new clay handled the unexpected deluge of water well and provided a wide, smooth and very fast throughout the night’s races producing 16 second lap times.

The first order of business, as always, was to honor the last races (June 6th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action in all five classes, plus three sprint car heats and B Feature, took the large crowd of race fans to intermission at 10: 15 PM. The intermission break gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food along with the soon to be world famous Menasco BBQ.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) taking his fifth A Feature win, after his vacation week, while Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) and Jesse Garner (2 - Alma, AR) rounded out the top three.

In the Super Stock A Feature, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) made it back to back feature wins while picking up his fourth A Feature win of the season, with Randy Moses, Sr. (75M – Muskogee, OK) close behind in second and TJ Moore (14J - Fort Smith, AR) in third.

The AmeriFlex OCRS Sprint Cars took to the track next for their A Feature. While turning 16 second laps, Sean McClelland (1 – Tulsa, OK) was able to run down and pass early race leader Robert Sellers (4X – Mustang, OK) with the help of a caution and red flag. Zach Chappell (50Z – Talala, OK) rounded out the top three.

The IMCA Sport Mods A Feature saw Kayden Menasco (49 – Dora, AR) pick up his second A Feature win of the season ahead of Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) and Gerry Vaughn (77 – Greenwood, AR).

The Factory/I Stock A Feature was up next with Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) picking up his fourth A Feature win of the year ahead of last week’s winner, Jay Anderson (36 – Springdale, AR), in second with Bren t Grover (17 - Pocola, OK) in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature saw Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) return to his winning ways with his fourth A Feature win, after a two month drought, as Chris Lewis (15L – Springdale, AR) finished in second, while Dallas Bourland (60B – Fort Smith, AR) crossed the finish line in third.

The last feature of the night was a combined Front Wheel Drive and Mini-Stock A Feature with Bobby Mulkey (6T – Alma, AR) in first ahead of Matt Hobbs (18H – Subiaco, AR) and James Poe (919 – Gravette, AR).

Complete race results, including heats, are available by clicking on the results link. Current point standings are available by clicking on the points link.

Racing is scheduled to continue on June 20th with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes.

By John Rittenoure - OCRS Web Editor

POCOLA, Okla. (June 13, 2015) - Sean McClelland has not been behind the wheel of his D&E Supply, Superior Auto Salvage sponsored sprinter since May 2. Four rainouts and a prior commitment combined to cause the three-time Oil Capital Racing Series champion to spend more time at home then at the racetrack.

However McClelland makes every lap behind the wheel count, and he did again Saturday night winning his second AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories / OCRS feature of the season.

“We were off for a month and we did not like being off that long,” McClelland said of the past month. “We were ready to race but we got a little rest.”

In the five events he has entered McClelland has three runner-up finishes to go with his two victories. However missing a couple of races dropped McClelland from first to fifth in the points going into the Tri-State show. But with Saturday’s win the Tulsa veteran has moved up to fourth.

McClelland started his run toward the front from the outside second row and quickly moved around third starting Danny Smith as pole sitter Robert Sellers jumped into the early lead chased by Brian McClelland.

Sellers was putting some distance between the McClelland brothers when the yellow waved after four laps. Shane Sellers, points runner-up Sheldon Barksdale and Dalton Ragsdale could not restart. But Sean used the restart to get a run on his brother, Brian, and take away second.

Sellers still held a comfortable lead when the race went red just before halfway. Brett Wilson, Nigel Calvert and David Stephenson got together in turn one and Wilson got into the wall hard and turned his sprinter over. Meanwhile Kyle Clark flipped over the concrete wall in turn two. No one was hurt, but Clark 's and Wilson’s sprint cars were heavily damaged.

The lap 12 restart helped McClelland get a run on Sellers. Finally on lap 15 McClelland powered around Sellers on the outside for the lead.

“I don’t know if his car got bad on him. It looked like he stayed the same speed,” McClelland said of his move into the lead. “I kept searching and searching on the top and kept moving up and then down a little bit, and my car just kept getting better and better.
“We ran him down and finally got a run on him.”

McClelland was not challenged over the remaining laps. Sellers settled for second ahead of sixth starting Zach Chappell in third. Johnny Kent and Glen Passmore rounded out the top five.

The second place finish ended Sellers hopes at a third straight victory. But the Mustang, Oklahoma driver did take over the AmeriFlex / OCRS points lead dropping Sheldon Barksdale to second.

“I just chose the wrong line,” Sellers said of losing the lead.

After rain washed out Friday’s AmeriFlex / OCRS event at Monett Speedway an afternoon shower threatened to wash out Saturday’s show. In stead it resulted in a high-speed tacky racetrack.

“It was fast,” McClelland said. “That is the fastest I have been around this place. It had a nice little cushion on it and you could run the bottom a little.”

Meanwhile McClelland hopes his run of consistency will continue.

“We just keep catching breaks,” he said. “One of these days these breaks aren’t going to go our way, but we will take it while we can get them.”

McClelland Wins at Tri-State Speedway!

John Lemon, OCRS Public Relations

Tulsa Okla. (June 9, 2015)- After finally getting to race last weekend at the Lawton Speedway on the tail end of record rainfall in the region for the month of May, now comes a twofer for the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars. Friday night will see the highly unpredictable winged warriors in action at the “Grand Ole Lady” of the Monett Speedway in Monett Missouri, followed by a Saturday night stop at the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola Oklahoma.

Monett Speedway features bright reddish clay with an oval that produces some tight close action. Tri-State, while similar in length, is a track that is wider and can muster up some high speed racing action. This will also be “Bonus Weekend” for the race teams. Each track will raise their A-Feature starting pay while a $1000 cash bonus awaits the top three teams with the most championship points totaled between the two events.

Mustang Oklahoma’s Robert Sellers will be attempting to keep his winning streak alive, as the driver of the Checkered Flag Trucking Special has been victorious in the last two outings on the circuit. Sellers has closed in on point leader Sheldon Barksdale’s hold at the top spot in the race for the Harold Leep Championship Trophy. There are now just 14 markers between them (499-485).  Brian McClelland is third with 450 points followed by Brent Bates (373) and Sean McClelland (367).

This will be the fourth year the AmeriFlex / OCRS series will visit the Monett Speedway. Whit Gastineau took the initial visit to the Show Me State in 2012 followed by two career first time winners in Kacee Frazier (2013) and Michael Bookout (2014).  Promoter Randy Mooneyham has embraced the AmeriFlex / OCRS series from the outset and the fans of the land of Tiger’s have done the same.

Tri-State has hosted a handful of AmeriFlex / OCRS events the past few years. This time, things will be a bit different as new Tri-State owners/promoters Carey & Nicole Menasco have improved on a few things. There is new clay on the racing surface and new retaining walls of which the AmeriFlex / OCRS teams have seen neither. Race fans who haven’t been to the TSS yet in 2015 will find newly remodeled restrooms and new concession stands await them as well as a score board in turn one.

Nutz n’ Boltz:

Bigger Donuts: With the way the soggy month of May played out, the teams of the AmeriFlex / OCRS series have been racing on ¼-mile ovals the last four times out. Two at Lawton and 1 each at Caney Valley and Flint Creek Speedways. The last time the series was on a track larger than a shiny quarter was on April 11th at the Outlaw Motor Speedway’s 3/8-mile track, which is the same distance as both tracks this weekend.

Four of a Kind?:  Should Robert Sellers sweep the doubleheader weekend, it will give him 5 wins for the season and 4 checkers in a row. No driver has held a four of kind hand since Jamie Passmore did it in 2012. Passmore eventually made it 5 in a row before getting his streak broken by one of his good friends, Danny Smith.

Loss of the Boss: AmeriFlex / OCRS owner - president Barry Grabel missed his first race at Lawton since buying the series in 2005 due to military commitments. Two members of the AmeriFlex / OCRS staff arrived at the track early only to hear that the balance of the crew were delayed due to problems on the highway east of Lawton. Undeterred, the crew forged on. While the early arriving members held down the fort, the remaining members arrived 10 minutes prior to the start of hot laps after their unwelcomed travel issues and the night went on without a hitch. Better late than never.

Those are OUR Guys! If this were the World of Outlaws vs. the Pennsylvania Posse, Lawton area fans would be quick to point out that the top three last week (Robert Sellers, Kyle Ezell & Gary Owens) are their homeboys and put a whoopin’ on the eastern drivers that night. Can’t argue with facts.

More Military Duty: As with Barry Grabel, Cove Arkansas pilot Joseph Miller had to miss the Lawton event due to military commitments. It broke his perfect attendance record with the series to date but its for a good cause. Thanks to both gentlemen for their service to our great country.

Prime Producers: Only two drivers have been in the top 5 in all of the AmeriFlex / OCRS events they have participated in (min. 4 events). They are Sean McClelland and Whit Gastineau. Only one driver has been in the top 10 in all six events held. That would be Sheldon Barksdale and that’s a key reason why he is the point leader.

After Mother Nature rounded out the month of May with 20” of rain at the track and causing a cancellation of last two weekends of racing, 70 racers were on hand to take on the famous high banks for another round of point racing. The pre-race activities began a little late at 7:10 PM with the temperature around 90 degrees and a ton of humidity. The 350 dump truck loads of new clay continues to get better each week. Even with the hot temperatures, after the surface dust blew off and a quick sprinkle from the water truck, the track was wide and smooth throughout the night’s races.

The first order of business was to honor the last races (May 16th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action in all five classes hit the track first taking the race fans in attendance to intermission at around 8:45 PM. The intermission break gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food with the great Menasco BBQ.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Wesley Bourne (5 - Cameron OK) taking the win while Junior Grim (16 – Pocola, OK) and Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) rounded out the top three.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Jay Anderson (36 – Springdale, AR) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) finished second with Kyle Woody (77 – Crowder, OK) in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with Van Gemmill (21 -  Ponca City, OK) taking home his first win of the season as Kent Bright (3B – Sand Springs, OK) finished in second, while Anthony Reeves (1ST - Mulberry, AR) crossed the finish line in third.

In the Super Stock A Feature of 20 cars, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) would come out on top for the third time this season, with Randy Moses, II (75 – Muskogee, OK) in second and josh Essary (4E – Bella Vista, AR) in third.

The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods. Once again the two cars to beat seem to be Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) and Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO). Unlike the last great battle between the two the last time we raced, Scroggins was able to withstand the challenges for his fourth win of the season. McCarty finished in second place ahead of Gerry Vaughn (77 - Greenwood, AR).

The first of two 100 lap Enduro races was held after the race program. After almost 50 minutes and only one red flag, Greg Dobbs (Booneville, AR) was the only car on the lead lap and picked up the $2,000 paycheck while Tim Van Gotten (Chanute, KS) finished in second with Scott Stuart (Chanute, KS) in third.

Complete race results, including heats, are available by clicking on the results link. Current point standings are available by clicking on the points link, as well.

Racing is scheduled to continue on June 13th with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes plus the Ameri-Flex Hoses and Accessories Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS) Sprint Cars will make their first appearance in 2015.

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 6:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 7 PM. After Mother Nature disrupted our racing activities again this season with ten inches of rain and causing a cancellation of  May 2nd’s racing, 67 racers returned this past weekend to take on the famous high banks for another night of point racing. The pre-race activities began at 6:45 PM with temperatures in the mid 80’s and a slight breeze from the south. Even with the huge amounts of rain, the track held it up really well thanks to the extra effort put forth by the track personnel that still produced three and four wide racing throughout the night’s action.

The first order of business was to honor the last races (May 2nd) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action took to the track afterwards taking the grandstand crowd to intermission at around 8:15 PM. The intermission break, not only gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food, but also gave the kids on hand their second chance of the season at the bicycle races. There are three more bicycle races planned for the 2015 season in June, August and September. The kids were also treated to a chance to win a free boy’s and girl’s bike, compliments of Menasco Racing Enterprises, just for attending the night’s races.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks and Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) got back to his winning ways with his fourth win of the season while Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) and Tyler Chambers (T13 – Welling, OK) rounded out the top three.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Dalton Ragsdale (22 – Muskogee, OK) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Ron Grover (17 - Pocola, OK) finished second with Joshua Vaughn (77 – Pocola, OK) in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with 19 cars and saw William Gould (60 – Calera, OK) taking home his first win of the season as Michael Ables (61 – Caddo, OK) finished in second, while Brandon Wilson (00 – Fort Smith, AR) crossed the finish line in third.

In the Super Stock A Feature of 16 cars, Robert Knowles (44K- Talihina, OK) and Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) had a very competitive race with the lead changing several times the last few laps between the two. Knowles would come out on top, for the first time this season, with Johnston, last week’s winner, in second with Corey Lawrence (99 – Plainview, AR) in third.

The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods. Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) had to regain the lead several times due to cautions and restarts, but was able to take home his first win of the season over Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) in second place ahead of 14 year old Kayden Menasco (49 – McAlester, OK).

Complete race results, including heats, are available on our website at www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com. Current point standings are available there, as well.

Racing is scheduled to continue on May 23rd with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes plus the Pure Stocks will be racing for added money for the top five finishers presented by the Pure Stock Racing Association (PSRA) and Central Wholesale Vacuums. After the regular racing, we will let the mechanics who turn the wrenches, see if they can turn the wheels of their cars in Mechanic’s Races.

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 6:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 7 PM. Information on admission pricing and our complete 2015 racing schedule can always be found by clicking on the schedule link  Also, be sure to stay up to date with us via our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube which can be found by clicking the icons on the bottom of our home page  or by adding a “/” plus “Facebook”, “Twitter”, “Google+” or “YouTube” at the end so it looks like www.Tri-StateSpeedway.com/Facebook, etc.

Coming up this Saturday night at the legendary Tri-State Speedway is the first of two $2,000 to win Enduro races in 2015. This weekend's races and Enduro is being presented by Breeden Hyundai in Fort Smith, AR. These Enduro races last for 100 laps, two hours or until only one vehicle is moving, whichever comes first.

These are basically street vehicles that have been modified slightly by taking off exterior body molding, removing the glass, etc. No other modifications are allowed other than a roll cage (recommended), a driver "shield" in front of them and chaining/welding the doors shut. That is all there is to it!

There are no red flags or race stoppages during the event except in cases of an emergency, like fires or roll overs, or unless the track is blocked.

Want to make it even more fun? Some of these drivers will have passengers riding along with them in the front seat to help navigate the traffic!

Entry fees for this event are just $50 and your $30 pit pass for a chance at bringing home the winner's paycheck of $2,000! For more information, please click on the Enduro rules tab. ALL ENDURO DRIVERS MUST REGISTER FOR FREE by clicking here.

Adult admission to the grandstands are just $10, $8 for seniors and $5 for kids (6-12 years old.) Don't forget about our family pack pricing, too!

The Southern Dirt Modifieds that were originally scheduled to bring the roar and rumble of their big block modifieds to Tri-State Speedway this coming weekend have been forced to reschedule at a later date due to the continuous meddling of Mother Nature into their race season.

Not only has the rain interrupted our weekly racing, but it has itnerrupted their sereis racing, as well. With them being several races behind in their series and with a fairly good chance of us being rained out, it was a decision that had to be made.

Tri-State was not originally on their schedule but was added as a "work in" date that seemed possible this coming weekend. A make-up date has not been scheduled as of yet, but we will get them here for our fans, as soon as time allows.

Tri-State Speedway will be racing all regular classes plus mechanic's races this weekend, if the weather allows.

Souther Dirt Modifieds

Kid's bicycle races return this weekend May 16th, to the legendary Tri-State Speedway! Our May bike races were originally scheduled for later this month, but good old Mother Nature decided to re-arrange our schedule for us! Each bicycle class gets their own trophies plus one lucky boy and girl from the grandstands will each win a FREE bicycle!

Also, this weekend we will have $1 hot dogs all night long! That's right, only $1 buck, four quarters, ten dimes or twenty nickels, or any combination of the above!

Bring the kids, bikes and your appetite THIS weekend! Be sure to come out and enjoy the racing with all of your family and friends as 70+ race cars take to the track.

We will see YOU soon!

The 8th Annual Danny Martinez, Jr. Memorial Races and Law Enforcement, EMT and Fire Fighter’s Night saw 76 racers take on the famous high banks for another night of point racing for the 2015 season. The pre-race activities began 6:45 PM with temperatures in the mid 80’s and a slight breeze from the south. For the first time this season, there was no rain during the week and the track prep workers had the track race-ready, extremely raceable and fast with three and four-wide action throughout the night.

The first order of business was to honor the last races (April 25th) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and memorial parade laps by area law enforcement personnel and drivers during the national anthem.

Danny Martinez, Jr. was a Fort Smith, AR police officer and Tri-State Speedway race car driver, fan and friend, who was killed in the line of duty in March of 2007.

Heat racing action took to the track afterwards taking the grandstand crowd to intermission at around 8:30 PM. The intermission break, not only gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food, but also gave those in attendance a chance to hear live interviews with flagman, Chris Highley, and former track promoter, Sonny Davis, from interviewer, Michelle Walker.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks and Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) took home his third win of the season while Jack Kirby (7K) and Jeff Metcalf (7J) rounded out the top three.

In the Super Stock A Feature competition, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) took the win away from Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) on the next to last lap with a great pass off of turn four while Dale Richardson (327 – Muskogee, OK) finished in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next with Johnny Bone, Jr. (12 – Pea Ridge, AR) taking home the win while surviving a late race challenge by Shawn Walsh (10 – Ash Flat, AR), who finished in second, while Brent Holman (17 – Rogers, AR) came home in third for the second week in a row.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Dale Richardson (327 – Muskogee, OK) take home the winner’s money for the first time in 2015 as Mike Weisman (DT1 – Muskogee, OK) finished second with Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) in third.

The last A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods where Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) picked up his third feature win of the season and second in a row. Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) had the race won until lap traffic off of the last turn, on the last lap, relegated him to a second place finish ahead of Todd Broyles (09 – Farmington, AR) who finished in third for the second week in a row.

Complete race results, including heats, are available by clicking on the Results menu links. Current 2015 season points are also available by click on the Points meny links.

Racing is scheduled to continue on May 9th with another night of point racing in Pocola, OK for all regular classes plus the MARS late models who will invade the famous high banks for their first appearance of the 2015 season.

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 6:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 7 PM. After a week off due to everyone’s favorite Mother, Nature that is, another night of point racing for the 2015 season got underway at 6:45 PM with temperatures in the low 80’s and a gusty breeze from the northwest. Even though mid-week and previous day’s rain put the night’s action in question, the track was race-ready and very raceable with three and sometimes four-wide action.

The first order of business this week, as was the last time we raced, was to honor the last races’ (April 11th) A Feature winners with their trophies and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action for all 61 cars took to the track at the 7 PM mark and were ran without too many cautions taking the grandstand crowd on hand to intermission at 8 PM. The intermission break, not only gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the awesome concession stand food, but tonight was the first of five bicycle race nights for the kids. Unfortunately, we did not get the names of the race winners. But, one lucky boy, Syler Barker, and one lucky girl, Kelsey Smith, each walked away with a free bicycle donated by Menasco Racing Enterprises.

The Front Wheel Drives ran a Dash for Cash with Brian Parmenter (308) crossing the finish line ahead of Tom Paulson (4 – Spiro, OK) and Roger Rusher (3 – Ozark, AR).

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK) taking home the trophy over Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) while Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) rounded out the top three.

The Factory/I Stocks A Feature saw Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) taking home the winner’s money for the third time in a row. Dalton Ragsdale (22 – Muskogee, OK) finished second and Kris Vaughn (45 – Pocola, OK) in third.

In the Super Stock A Feature competition, Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) took home the win as Gene Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) finished ahead of last week’s winner, Neil Johnson (17 – Fort Smith, AR) in third.

The next A Feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods where Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) picked up his second feature win of the season, while Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) and Todd Broyles (09 – Farmington, AR) rounded out the top three.

The IMCA Modifieds A Feature rounded out the night’s racing with Casey Lindell (18 – Porter, OK) taking home the big money over Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) in second and Brent Holman (17 – Rogers, AR) in third.

Complete race results, including heats, are available by clicking on the Results menu links. Current point standings are also available by clickong on the Points menu links..

April 25th, 2015 Winners

This weekend at Tri-State Speedway is the 8th Annual Danny Martinez, Jr. Memorial Races. It is also Law Enforcement, EMT and Firefighters night. All of the above will get in FREE with identification this weekend!

For those that do not know the story about Danny, the following is a brief summary.

Officer Daniel C. Martinez Jr., 33, had been with the Fort Smith Police Department for eight months when on March 23, 2007, he was dispatched to responded to a call to help a desperate mother get her 3yr old child from a residence where she had a run in with her ex-boyfriend earlier in the day.

The ex-boyfriend had been arrested and the mother had returned to pick up her child. She met Officer Martinez in the parking lot. They went to the front door and the brother of the man arrested earlier answered and told them to wait a minute, then shut the door. He returned with a 9 mm handgun and shot Officer Martinez, then shot the mother in the back, shoulder, and elbow as she fled.

The shooter fled from the home in a car and killed himself before Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers found him near Spiro, Oklahoma.

Officer Martinez had served for several years with the Poteau Police Department, Panama Police Department, Shady Point Police Department, and Wister Police Department, all of which are in Oklahoma. He joined the Fort Smith Police Department on July 3, 2006. He is survived by his wife Alice and five children.

Not only was Danny a revered and well respected police officer but he was also a life-long race fan and later became a racer right here with us at Tri-State Speedway. He was also in the process of building a car to race with us just over eight years ago when he was tragically killed.

Please come out and support not only the memory of Danny, but come out and help us raise funds for the Officer Daniel C. Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is was founded in 2007 and is sponsored by the River Valley Marine Corp League Detachment # 1248 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The scholarship, once funded, will be open to college students who demonstrate a financial need. Scholarship applicants must have maintained a 3.0 grade-point average, but can be studying any college major. The scholarship fund awarded it's first scholarship last fall.

The goal of the scholarship is to eventually make this a full-ride scholarship to cover tuition, books and room and board. It will be awarded by the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith which will decide on a recipient each semester. We are very much on way to our goal of a fully funding scholarship!

Don't forget that all donations are tax deductible.

If paying by check, please make donations payable to:

"UA Fort Smith Foundation" or "FSP Officer Martinez Memorial Scholarship" and on the memo line please include: "Officer Martinez Memorial Endowment Scholarship".

8th Annual Danny Martinez, Jr. Memorial Races and Law Enforcement, EMT and Firefighters Night

Everyone have a safe and enjoyable weekend and we will see YOU next Saturday night at the legendary Tri-State Speedway!

Kids on bikes!

On a night that only be described as surprisingly pleasant for early April, with a green flag temperature of about 75 degrees and the ever-present southerly breeze, another night of point racing for the 2015 season got underway at 6:45 PM.

The first order of business this week was to honor last weekend’s (April 4th) A Feature winners with their trophies and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action for all 53 cars took to the track just a few minutes past the 7 PM mark and were ran without too many cautions taking the grandstand crowd on hand to intermission a little after 8 PM. The intermission break of about 20 minutes gave everyone the chance to stretch their legs a little as they walked to the all-new concession for some of the awesome BBQ sandwiches, ribs, burgers and hot dogs, as well the requisite fries and nachos, while washing it all down with some ice cold Coca-Cola products. Some of the crowd even took advantage of the desert offerings as several plates of funnel cakes were seen throughout the grandstands as the feature racing began on the famous high banks.

The first A Feature action was for the Pure Stocks with Miranda Carver (40 – Lockesburg, AR) taking home the win over the previous two week’s winner Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) while Pure Stock newcomer Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK) rounded out the top three.

The Front Wheel Drive A Feature had Cody Smith (13 – Booneville, AR) crossing the finish line ahead of Roger Rusher (3 – Ozark, AR) while Tom Paulson (4 – Spiro, OK) crossed the line in third.

The Factory/I Stocks ran a Dash-For-Cash with last week’s feature winner, Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) taking home the winner’s money. Shelly Carver (48X – Lockesburg, AR) finished second and Jerome Heinrich (4+4 – Huntsville, AR) in third.

The IMCA Modifieds took to the track next for their A Feature.  Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK) made it three for three in 2015 at Tri-State Speedway with another win ahead of Van Gemmill (21 – Ponca City, OK) and Zane Hunter (1/2 – Alma, AR).

In the Super Stock feature competition, Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith) worked hard for his first A Feature win of the season as Robert Knowles (44K- Buffalo Valley, OK) finished ahead of Gene Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) in second and third respectively.

The last feature on the track was the IMCA Sport Mods. 14 year old Kayden Menasco (49 – McAlester, OK) took over the lead just past the midway point in the feature from Ryan Adams (25 – Fort Smith, AR) who finished third behind Logan Ellis (118).

We will see YOU soon!

Finally, a week with no rain, ice or snow! It seems that Mother Nature has been playing a round of “How Much Can We Mess with the New Track Surface” at the legendary Tri-State Speedway. For almost every week of the last 12 weeks, there has either been inches of rain, ice or snow on the 350+ dump truck loads of new clay that was dumped onto the old racing surface. As a result of the adverse weather conditions, the track surface for last weekend’s season opening 36th Annual Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger were not what we would hope/strive to have.

With a full week of predicted rain and storms, almost no rain, if any, fell on the famous high banks in Pocola, OK.  As a result, this weekend’s races were started on time, with a lot fewer cautions from spins and accidents;  a wide, smooth and fast track; warmer temperatures and a healthy grandstand crowd that witnessed a competitive racing program that saw a few repeat winners from last weekend and some new winners, as well.

This weekend also saw the Easter Bunny make an appearance at intermission with candy for the kids and free photos! The photos can be picked up next weekend at the track. This weekend’s races and Easter festivities were sponsored by Menasco Racing Enterprises.

Results from Saturday night’s action saw two racers make it two in a row with another three winning their first feature of the year.  In Pure Stock action, Dennis Slader (19 – Muskogee, OK) notched win number two of the season at Tri-State Speedway, while Cody Collingsworth (10 - Rudy, AR) finished second followed by Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR). In the IMCA Sport Mod class, Aaron Scroggins (1/4 – Neosho, MO) picked up the A Feature hardware and check with Todd Broyles (09 – Farmington, AR) right on his rear bumper and Kayden Menasco (4960 – McAlester, OK) finishing in third.

Factory/I Stock action saw Chris Patterson (48 – Greenwood, AR) win his first feature of the season, with Kris Vaughn (35 – Pocola, OK) in second and defending class champion, Jerome Heinrich (4+4 – Huntsville, AR) in third. Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) took home the win for the first time in 2015 in the Super Stocks, while Gene Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) found the high line late in the race to finish second ahead of Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR).  In the IMCA Modifieds, Tate Cole (89 – Muskogee, OK) made it two for two with his A Feature win as Danny Womack (3 – Bixby, OK) crossed the line in second ahead of Van Gemmill (21 – Ponca City, OK).

Complete race results, including heats, and current points can be found by clicking on the Results menu or by clicking here.

Racing action continues this coming Saturday night with another round of high-octane, edge-of-your-seat, door-to-door action on the famous high banks with another night of point racing as we celebrate 45 consecutive years of racing in 2015. Pit gates open at 4 PM with grandstands at 5 PM. Racing is scheduled to start at 7 PM. All of our information can always be found here on our website and all of our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube.

We will see you soon!

Although Mother Nature didn't provide much help this past weekend, the 36th Annual Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger, presented by Smith Auto Group is now in the books.

Racing action was set to start on Thursday night, March 26th, with an open practice session, but rain during the night and early morning forced the cancellation and also caused everyone to take on the track Friday night for qualifying without any seat time on the new surface and configuration.

During the winter the track changed ownership for only its fourth time in its 44 year, storied history. With the new ownership also came the change in sanctioning to IMCA, improved and rebuilt facilities and a new track surface. The changes included rebuilding some of the under-structure of the grandstands, improvements to the bathroom facilities and a brand new concession stands, both upstairs and down. The racing surface received 350 loads of new red clay, a slight decrease in banking and wider turns creating a very wide, multi-groove racing surface.

Mother Nature didn't just have her hand in this past weekend's activities, but also for most of this year. When the new owner, Carey Menasco, was finally able to get the new clay hauled in, we had snow, rain and ice for a few weeks in a row causing a lot of the new red clay to absorb a lot of moisture deep inside. Even though the surface was smooth and even dusty at times, the moisture in \the low grooves of both turns kept creeping up to the surface causing those areas to be extra soft and to develop some ruts during Friday's qualifying races. Track prep was undertaken again and once again, the track was smooth early on Saturday night for last chance qualifying and main features, but Mother Natures’ previous actions came back once again with the soft clay in the bottom of the turns. However, with the new wider turns, there were two alternate lines above and below the soft area if a driver chose to run them.

Friday’s qualifying action saw 82 cars challenge the legendary track for their chance at locking into the top four A Feature positions or the top four B Feature positions. The top A Feature qualifiers were Dennis Slader (19 - Muskogee, OK), Andrew Bohanan (X - Stigler, OK), Gene Gore (76 - Muldrow, OK) and Clifton Drummond (21JR - Mountainburg, AR) in the Pure Stocks; Aaron Scroggins (1/3 - Neosho, MO),  Levi Chipp (66 - Hampton, IA), Kyle Stevens (12X - Tahlequah, OK) and Logan Ellis (118 - Wagoner, OK) in the IMCA Sport Mods; Jay Anderson (D28 - Springdale, AR), Mike Wiseman (DT1 - Muskogee, OK), Chris Patterson (48 - Greenwood, AR) and Wesley Taylor\r (3 - Eufaula, OK) in the Factory/I Stocks; Danny Womack (3 - Bixby, OK), Tate Cole (89 - Muskogee, OK), Ronny Gould (1 - Calera, OK) and Daniel Tarkington (3X- Checotah, OK) in the IMCA Modifieds; plus Neil Johnston (17 - Fort Smith, AR), Dale Richardson (327 - Muskogee, OK), Dylan Davlin (26D - Shady Point, OK) and Mikey Bell (7X - Red Bud, AR) in the Super Stocks.

Saturday's action got underway at 7:40 PM with a memorial parade lap by the drivers, being escorted by vehicles from the Smith Auto Group, during the National Anthem for former longtime owner and promoter Cecil Harlan, as well as for the recent passing of Truman Phipps who was known by many for his racing, chassis building and friendship. The parade lap was followed by a trackside interview with Cecil's daughter Tamyra Hanna, who also waved the first green flag of official racing for the night. With 110 cars on hand for last chance qualifying, the action was fast and furious. With bone-chilling wind gusts at 30 mph, the fans in the packed stands were definitely ready for some warmth from some of the great new food items from the new concessions including some mouth-watering, finger-licking BBQ ribs.

The B Feature winners from Saturday night included Miranda Carver (40 - Lockesburg, AR) in the Pure Stocks, Kayden Menasco (49 - McAlester, OK) with his first feature win in the IMCA Sport Mods, Andrew Bohanan (7A - Stigler, OK) in the Factory/I Stocks, Kyle Slader (19S - Muskogee, OK) in the Super Stocks, Steve Muilenburg (33 - Sparta, MO) in the IMCA Modifieds, James Poe (919 - Gravette, AR) in the Front Wheel Drives and Carl Tuck, III (6 - Kibler, AR) in the Mini-Stocks.

The big money winners from Saturday night included, Dennis Slader (19 - Muskogee, OK) in the Pure Stocks, Steve Muilenburg (39 - Sparta, MO) in the IMCA Sport Mods after repairing his car from a roll over on Friday night, Andrew Bohanan (7A - Stigler, OK) in the Factory/I Stocks, Dale Richardson (327 - Muskogee, OK) in the Super Stocks, Tae Cole (89 - Muskogee, OK) in the IMCA Modifieds, James Poe (919 - Gravette, AR) in the Front Wheel Drives, Christopher Tuck (6T - Mulberry, AR) in the Mini-Stocks and Dillon Rupe (52 - Broken Arrow, OK) in the Late Model Dash for Cash.

Racing continues this weekend, April 4th, with regular point racing in all classes, plus the Easter Bunny will be on hand for free photos and candy with the kids. Pit gates open at 4 PM with the grandstands opening at 5 PM and racing scheduled to start at 7 PM in Pocola, OK.      Not only will there be point racing in all five regular classes, there will also be a Kid's Dance Contest! The kids will compete in one of three age groups for fun and prizes! Also, as an added attraction, we will also be running Mechanic's Races! This will give the people who turn the wrenches all week a chance to show their stuff on the legendary high banks.

If you’re into fashion clothing, sports, hunting, home decoration, floral arranging or working with tools, you are sure to enjoy snooping for bargains in one of their stores.

Kids love A-Z stores too. They have toys and designer clothing for infants through teens. A-Z's selection of children’s furniture and decorations will turn a child’s room into a dreamy wonderland.

Looking for a unique gift? A-Z has unusual gift items as well as money-saving bargains on the most asked-for gifts.

Friendly, helpful staff members make sure customers enjoy shopping in every A-Z store. Your day of shopping will be made complete with a refreshing stop at our country diner located right next to the other stores.

A-Z Wholesale Warehouses are located three miles north of Alma, Arkansas, on U.S. Highway 71 North, easily accessed from Interstate 40 and Interstate 540. They are proud to let you know that their stores are locally owned and operated.

JUST ANNOUNCED: We have added a driver portion for the dance contest. The driver will win a free pit pass for the next weekend and a T-Shirt. Come on drivers, you show off your stuff on the track every week now it is time to show off your dance moves to the fans. The fans will vote on this as well as the kids' groups!
