  • Information Released for the 36th Annual Spooker at Tri-State Speedway!

The official information for the 36th Annual Spooker has now been released. This year’s event will take place on October 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th, 2015 at the legendary Tri-State Speedway, located in Pocola, OK.
This year’s A Feature payouts are the largest in the event’s 35 year storied history with over $58,000 up for grabs. The 2015 version promises to be one of, if not, the biggest racing events in this part of the country. New track owner, Carey Menasco, has upgraded the facilities this season with numerous enhancements, including new concession stands in the pits as well as on the grandstand side. Over the years, this event has become a destination for drivers and fans alike with many scheduling their vacations for this event and even camping out at the track. When this year’s event is through, will you be able to say that you raced in, or attended, the 36th Annual Spooker at Tri-State Speedway?
Seven classes will do battle on the famous high banks this year. The classes will include Pure Stocks, Factory/IMCA Stocks, Super/Street Stocks/Grand Nationals, Sport Mods (WISSOTA/USRA/IMCA), TSS Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds and Late Models. There will not be any Front Wheel Drive or Mini-Stock classes at this year’s event. There will not be any “area track rules” at this year’s event, as all classes will have to fit into the defined rules, as listed on the flyer.
The Pure Stocks and Super/Street Stocks/Grand Nationals will both follow the published 2015 Tri-State Speedway track rules for Pure Stocks and Super Stocks. The Factory/IMCA Stocks will be able to run either the 2015 Tri-State Speedway Factory Stock rules or the 2015 IMCA Stock Rules. The TSS Modifieds will run the 2015 USRA Modified rules with the Late Models running basically an open class with a few restrictions, as listed on the flyer. The IMCA Modifieds will run the 2015 IMCA Modified rules while the Sport Mods will be a combination class of WISSOTA Midwest Mods/USRA B-Mods/IMCA Sport Mods (both Northern and Southern) that will run will some restrictions as listed on the flyer.
This year’s event schedule will differ slightly from year’s past. Practice will continue to be on Wednesday night (14th) for all classes. Thursday night (15th) will feature heat racing (qualifying) for all classes, except Late Models. Friday night’s (16th) schedule will be feature racing for the Pure Stocks and IMCA Stock Cars with a second round of heat racing (qualifying) for the modified classes, the Super Stocks plus a full race program for the Late Models. Saturday night (17th) will be the feature racing for the Super Stocks and modified classes plus another full Late Model program.
Grandstand admission on Wednesday is free for everyone with only $15 pit passes. The gates on Wednesday open at 5 PM with practice from 6 PM to 10 PM. Thursday admission is only $10 for adults with kids (6-12) at $5 and pit passes of $30 and $15. Gates on Thursday open at 3 PM with racing at 7 PM. The trophy presentations for the previous week’s A feature winners (from September 12TH & 19TH, 2015) were up next with interviews, by Brian White, along with photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands. • 102 Drivers Check In For Weekly Show – Six Win as McCarty Wins 6th

    Rob Nugent, Track Announcer

POCOLA, OK (August 29TH, 2015) – After last weekend’s rain out and the previous weekend’s scheduled weekend off for back to school activities, Mother Nature once again threatened to throw her proverbial ‘monkey wrench” into the activities. A fairly light rain passed over the track early in the day on Saturday and thanks to the track crew’s hard work, the track was ready for hot laps at 7:15 PM.

The night kicked off with the trophy presentations for the previous race’s (from August 8TH, 2015) A Feature winners with interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands. This was followed with a short dialogue from track announcer, Rob Nugent, about the passing of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson, along with the passing of local racer and friend, Chuck Fountain. The invocation followed a moment of silence and then a memorial parade lap, honoring the late Tillman Evans, during the National Anthem.

Heat racing action got underway at 8:14 PM with a lot of three and four wide racing action. Intermission was underway by 9:30 PM which gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the concession food, try some of the world famous Menasco BBQ and grab a big funnel cake for dessert. Several race fans and kids were also the lucky recipients of track giveaways, including free T-Shirts, during the intermission.

The Pure Stock A Feature was up first and saw Andrew Bohanan (51) take home his second win of 2015 while previous winner, Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK), came home in second ahead of Chris Perkins (88 - Rudy, AR) who finished in third for the third week in a row.

In the IMCA Sport Mod A Feature, Ken McCarty (1 - Roger, AR) took home his sixth A Feature win of the season ahead of last week’s winner Cody Rongey (7 1- Booneville, AR) as Neil Johnston (17J - Fort Smith, AR) crossed the line in third.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next and saw Jake Davis (7 – Fort Smith, AR) take home the trophy for his first win of the season ahead of Johnny Bone, Jr. (12 – Pea Ridge, AR) and Tate Cole (89 – Muskogee, OK).

The Factory/I Stock A Feature saw Justin Johnson (55 – Fort Smith, AR) claim his second win of the season ahead of Shannon Cox (75 – Greenwood, AR) in second and Keith Heaslet (5 - Indianola, OK) in third.

The TSS Modified A feature was up next with Brandon Hunter (1/4 – Alma, AR) taking the win for the second week in a row over Mike Cook (7C – Community, AR) and Mike Hines (57M – Van Buren, AR) in second and third respectively.

The Super Stock A Feature hit the track next and saw H. Palmer (X-15 – Muldrow, OK) come home just a few feet short as Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) claimed the win that went down to the last lap and last turn as point leader Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) crossed the line in third.

Up next on the high banks was the Powder Puff race with only three of the eight who signed up taking to the track. Mary Margaret Green (31W) took the win over Virginia Anderson (36) and Angela Stanton (23).

The last race saw three of the eight ‘Old Timer” who signed in take to the track. The mystery driver of car #1 took the win over Bosco Hunter (1/2) and Carl McDade (1ST) as Carl lost a right front wheel after hitting the outside front strait wall on the next to last lap.

Complete race results, including heats, are available by clicking on the results link. Current point standings are available by clickin gon the points link.

Tri-State Speedway will return to action again on September 5th, 2015 with another night of point racing in all six classes plus added money by the Pure Stock Racing Association (PSRA). As the season gets closer to the end, the battle at the top of the point standings get hotter and hotter with as little as 11 points separating first and second in the IMCA Sport Mods.

Pit gates will open at 4:00 PM with the grandstands opening at 5:00 PM. Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 7:45 PM with the green flag set to drop on the racing action at 8:00 PM. Make your plans now to attend the 7th Annual Tillman Ecans Memorial Races presented by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Fort Smith. Coca-Cola has been a huge part of racing over the years with us at Tri-State Speedway so it is fitting for them to be a sponsor of the races which bears the founder and original builder's name.

The ecening will feature a memorial parade lap honoring the memories and service to Tri-State Speedway for the late Tillman Evans who passed just seven years ago. There will also be added money in all classes presented by Coca-Cola. The Pure Stocks will be racing for $500 to win. The Factory/IMCA Stocks will be $550 to win. The Super Stocks will be $600 to win. The IMCA Sport Mods will be $650 to win. The TSS Modifeids will be $700 to win. The IMCA Modifieds will be $800 to win.

Also, at the end of the night, we will have a couple of Old Timer's races for the older, retired drivers to get back in the seat another time to prove of they still have it, or just to prove that they are still faster than their fellow competitors.

We will also let the "ladies" of the track, whether they are wifes, girlfriends or just friends. take to the track in borrowed cars to see how well they stack up against their counterparts. The Powder Puff races are always a lot of fun and excitement.

All of this action will be at regular admission prices and normal start times.

    Rob Nugent, Track Announcer

POCOLA, OK (August 8TH, 2015) – After last weekend’s slight respite, Mother Nature seemed to be want at least one more weekend of the century numbers on the thermometer at race time. The air temperature at race time was an even 100 degrees with a “humiture”, or feels like temperature, of 109 degrees. A pretty good southerly breeze helped things somewhat until the sun dropped below the horizon in Turn 3 and dropped temps into the lower 90’s.

The night kicked off, as always, with the trophy presentation to the previous race’s (from August 1ST, 2015) A Feature winners with interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action got underway at 8:25 PM after a little extra track prep was undertaken to try and keep this season’s new clay from getting dusty. Intermission was underway by 10 PM which gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the concession food, try some of the world famous Menasco BBQ and grab a big funnel cake for dessert.

While the intermission was underway, the monthly kid’s bicycle races were held on the front straight and the two free bicycles were given away to one lucky boy and girl, just for coming out to the races. Only one more monthly bicycle race night is scheduled for 2015 so be sure to make sure you check our schedule by clicking on the schedile link for the date.

The Pure Stock A Feature was up first and saw Kyle McAllister (11K – Fort Smith, AR) take home his first win of 2015 while last weekend’s winner, Rick Edgerton (27 – Fort Smith, AR), came home in second ahead of Chris Perkins (88 - Rudy, AR) who finished in third for the second week in a row.

  • Rain Forces Postponement of Tillman Evans Memorial

Rain has forced us to postpone the 7th Annual Tillman Evans Memorial Races presented by Coca-Cola, originally scheduled for tonight, August 22md, 2015, until a later date.

Althought the rain moved in and out faily quickly. too much liquid sunshine fell on the track and the surface could not be worked in in time for the evenings events.

Tri-State Speedway strives for a wide, smooth racing surface for our drivers and our fans. It would have not been fair to both of them to try and race tonight.

We appreciate everyone's support, in our 45th consecutive year of racing at Tri-State Speedway in 2015 and we look forward to seeing everyone on August 29th, 2015.

  • Cole, Johnston Win Seventh While Edgerton, Johnson Win First

    Rob Nugent, Track Announcer

POCOLA, OK (August 1ST, 2015) – With temperatures in the low 90’s at race time, Mother Nature seemed to be in more of a cooperative frame of mind than she has been in the last month or so. With everything from near 100 degree temps at race time to over eight inches of rain during the week (and on Friday/Saturday), the change of the last few weeks has been very well welcomed. A slight breeze greeted fans helped keep things somewhat cooler until the sun dropped below the horizon in Turn 3.

The night kicked off with the first order of business, which was to honor the last races (July 17TH & 18TH) A Feature winners with their trophies, interviews and photo taking on the pass through in front of the grandstands after the pre-race ceremonies of the invocation and the national anthem.

Heat racing action got underway on Saturday night at 8:15 PM after eight different drivers were interviewed and trophies presented for their previous wins this season. Intermission was underway at 9:25 PM giving everyone a chance to stretch their legs and get some of the concession food, try some of the world famous Menasco BBQ and grab a big funnel cake for dessert.

The Factory/I Stock A Feature hit the track  first on Friday night with Justin Johnson (55 – Fort Smith, AR) claiming his first win of the season ahead of a hard charging Dalton Ragsdale (22 – Muskogee, OK) and former winner, Chris Patterson (48 – Muldrow, OK) in third.

In the IMCA Sport Mod A Feature, Ken McCarty (1 – Rogers, AR) took home his fifth A Feature win of the season, and second in a row, ahead of former winner, Steve Little (97S – Ada, OK) and Lonny Flanagan (1/2 – Rudy, AR) in second and third, respectively.

The IMCA Modified A Feature hit the track next and saw Tate Cole (89 - Muskogee, OK) go back to back to back, yes that is three, for his seventh win of the season as Van Gemmill (21 –Ponca City, OK) finished in second and Jake Davis (7 – Fort Smith, AR) finished in third.

The Pure Stock A Feature was up next and saw Rick Edgerton (27 – Fort Smith, AR) make his return to Tri-State Speedway a memorable one as he finished first ahead of another newcomer, for the 2015 season, Kyle McAllister (11K – Fort Smith, AR), who crossed the finish line ahead of Chris Perkins (88 - Rudy, AR).

The TSS Modified A feature was up next with Andy Milliken (6M- Greenwood, AR) taking the win away from Jeremy Vaughn (8V – Pocola, OK) on the last lap as Chad Wheeler (88 – Muskogee, OK) made his first appearance of 2015 at Tri-State Speedway a success.

The Super Stock A Feature hit the track for the last race of the night and saw Neil Johnston (17 – Fort Smith, AR) pick up feature win number seven ahead of H. Palmer (X-15 – Muldrow, OK) in a close second and Grant Davis (1 – Tahlequah, OK) in third.
